Thousands of years ago, a race of beings known as Dark Elves tried to send the universe into darkness by using a weapon known as the Aether. Warriors from Asgard stop them but their leader Malekith escapes to wait for another opportunity. The warriors find the Aether and since it cannot be destroyed, they try to hide it. In the present day, Jane Foster awaits the return of Thor although it has been two years since they last saw once another. In the meantime, Thor has been trying to bring peace to the nine realms. Jane discovers an anomaly similar to the one that brought Thor to Earth. She goes to investigate, finds a wormhole, and is sucked into it. Back on Asgard, Thor wishes to return to Earth but his father, Odin refuses to let him. Thor learns from Heimdall, who can see into all of the realms, that Jane disappeared. Thor then returns to Earth just as Jane reappears. However, when some policemen try to arrest her, an unknown energy repulses them. Thor then brings Jane to Asgard to find out what happened to her. When the energy is released again, they discover that when Jane disappeared, she crossed paths with the Aether and it entered her. Malekith, upon sensing that the time to strike is now, seeks out the Aether. He attacks Asgard and Thor's mother Frigga is killed protecting Jane. Odin wants to keep Jane on Asgard so that Malekith will come. Thor disagrees with his plan, so with his cohorts, he decides to take Jane away. He enlists the aid of his brother, Loki. Unfortunately, Loki's motivations remain unknown.

Initially its prospects seem more promising than its predecessor, but it soon becomes apparent that 'Thor: The Dark World' is so generic and devoid of character development - not to mention the fact that what little is present is almost immediately upended by the other films in which the eponymous hero appears - that even the impressively rendered CGI spectacle becomes nothing more than a passive viewing experience because we have no connection to any of the characters caught up in the over-the-top proceedings; it also doesn't help that Thor himself is barely even in the flick, with large portions of the picture (sometimes even ten minutes) dedicated solely to the downright annoying side- characters or the always up-staging yet at this point played-out Loki, and the villain is so bland, so unthreatening and just so sincerely uninteresting that the film quickly slips into its own unique rhythm of tedious action and lullaby-like exposition. 5/10

About two years after the events from the first instalment, a very old enemy of the universe awakens, seeking to find his lost power and turn everything into darkness. Thus, much sooner than expected, Thor will be faced with saving the world once again.

The second film of the Thor series presents a great evil, older than the universe itself, which comes back once again to destroy it. This time, Thor must find a way to eradicate it, while struggling to protect his family and human friend. As its predecessor, it is filled with plenty of action, drama and suspense, while sometimes even making you laugh with a very well placed joke or pun. In comparison with its predecessor, it is much more serious and dark, thus more captivating and interesting. In manages to keep a very good pace until the end without being predictable, providing a satisfying finale. It keeps most of the characters from the first film, well described and played, which contribute decisively to the outcome of the movie.

It proved to be a very good movie, an excellent watch and clearly an improvement in almost every aspect. It had a couple of superficial moments, or events which could have been more carefully treated, but it still is a very good movie!
