A dead body is found draped over the joint "Welcome to Ontario/Bienvenue à Québec" sign. There are obvious jurisdictional issues in investigating this case between the Ontario Provincial Police and la Sûreté du Québec, but neither side really wants the case. Finally, they decide to work on it jointly, with the two officers assigned being straight-laced Martin Ward, the "bon cop", and rough and tumble David Bouchard, the "bad cop". Beyond the organizational and language differences, Ward and Bouchard have different working styles that clash with each other. Despite their differences, they quickly learn that they have to work together to achieve their end goal of finding the killer. As they progress in the case, there are more victims, the similarities being that each is tattooed before and after death - hence the media nicknames the perpetrator The Tattoo Killer - and that the victims are associated with professional hockey. The murders seem to be related to the sale of Canadian hockey franchises to U.S. markets. Ward and Bouchard's job becomes one not only of catching the killer but also anticipating who the next targeted victim will be. But as Ward and Bouchard get closer, the Tattoo Killer begins a personal vendetta against the two police officers and their families.

The film opens with a murder scene and the body was found in the border between Ontario and Quebec. Due to jurisdiction problems Toronto cop Martin Ward and Montreal cop David Broussard were forced to work together till they solve it. It's an action oriented movie with some elements of humor and easily called as the Canadian version of 'Lethal Weapon'. The most enjoyable thing in the movie is the arguing between Bouchard and Ward on everything they encounter. Colm Feore and Patrick Huard's chemistry really work out. Overall, it's a full on entertainer and fully satisfies as a good buddy cop movie.

Bon Cop, Bad Cop (2006) This is a Canadian action comedy about two police officers - one from Ontario and one from Quebec, who reluctantly join forces to solve a murder. The dialogue is a mixture of English and French. This actually adds to the comedy and doesn't distract. It's a buddy cop movie reminiscent of Lethal Weapon, with a touch of Rush Hour. It's the perfect fusion of action and comedy. The film won two Genie Awards, four Canadian Comedy Awards and the 'billet d'or' (golden ticket) at Quebec's Jutra Awards (given to the film with the highest box-office success). The movie was not released theatrically outside Canada, which is too bad, as I believe it would have done well internationally. It fared well enough in Canada to warrant a sequel. It's a very well put together film. I'm looking forward to watching the sequel soon.

Martin Ward (Colm Feore) is a straight laced cop from Toronto. David Bouchard (Patrick Huard) is a rough and tumble cop from Montreal. A dead body is found on top of the sign splitting the provinces. Neither guy wants the case, but they both have to solve the case together. They soon figured that the body was drop from a helicopter, and he was killed by a serial killer called The Tattoo Killer.

There are some passable jokes. They start off annoyed with each other, but their common cause slowly brings the two together. There is something about subtitles that makes jokes less funny. Reading a joke is completely different than experiencing a joke. Aside from the dual language nature of the movie, this is a standard police drama and a buddy cop film here. Although I wish they didn't push the color so far to the blue/green spectrum.
